Types of Hepatitis

Types of hepatitis include -

  • Hepatitis A

A virus-induced, infectious liver disease known as hepatitis A virus (HAV). It is present in the feces of infected persons and is often spread by ingress of food or contaminated water. HAV may also spread to individuals through certain unhygienic sexual activities. Polluted water or food, Inadequate hygiene and poor personal hygiene are the causes of the disease. Essentially when a person comes into contact with the food or drink of an infectious person, that person is also contaminated with the infection. In some cases, Infections are mild but some HAV diseases can be severe and life-threatening.

  • Hepatitis B

A virus that causes its disease is called Hepatitis B. A person's liver becomes ill with hepatitis B. Too many drugs, some additives, and other viruses can also make the liver sick. Infected blood, hepatitis B virus (HBV) can be spread by exposure to sperm and other body fluids. This infection can spread to an infant by an infected pregnant woman. Hepatitis B is moderate for some patients which may last for a while and disappear automatically after some time. These types of cases are called acute hepatitis. But in some cases, this disease is chronic due to which a person may have to struggle for a long time which can also be a threat to their life.

  • Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a viral infection that activates liver inflammation, often resulting in liver injury. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) spreads through infected blood, injection drug use, unsafe sexual practices. Hepatitis C can be both acute and chronic and can change in severity from a minor level as a permanent disease from a few weeks to several months. Hepatitis C is a major cause of liver cancer.

Complications of Hepatitis 

In general, hepatitis may have the following complications:

  • Inflammation associated with hepatitis B infection can cause widespread liver scarring (cirrhosis).
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) problems may occur in patients with HBV or HCV infection.
  • Blood vessels may swell in people with chronic hepatitis B.
  • Some people suffering from hepatitis C infection are likely to get liver cancer.
