Meningitis Treatment

Overview

The central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal cord, is covered with three layers of tissue called the meninges. Three layers of membranes known as meninges protect the brain and spinal cord. The lowest of these three layers is known as the pia mater which is a very delicate inner layer. The middle layer is called the arachnoid. This layer has a mesh-like structure filled with fluid that acts as a cushion for the brain. The top hard outer layer is called the dura mater. When the fluid around the meninges becomes infected due to some reason and the meninges become inflamed, it is called Meningitis. It is an infectious disease that can be caused by certain types of bacterial or viral infections. This disease can spread from person to person due to bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. This disease can happen to a person of any age.
